Lightfield - A High Ranking Product
 |
As a member of POMA the Professional Outdoor Media Association I get to meet various people at our meetings. Some companies provide guns and ammo for the writers to shoot and comment on. They want publicity for their products and if they are good I have no problem with that. Good products deserve us writers to get the word out so the shooting public knows about them. Lightfield products definitely fall in that category.
I met Geofry Wandersee at one of the POMA meetings a couple of years ago. He had this scoped shotgun with some slugs that he claimed had some special features besides being increditably accurate. He had three levels of power in his slugs and claimed that they all would shoot to the same point of impact at 50 yards. I told him that I would have to see that to believe it. I have shot quite |

a few slugs and different slugs from the same company generally hit to very different points of impact at 50 yards. Boy was I in for a surprise. They Did!!! At 50 yards I shot some groups using the three levels of power and obtained nice groups. I also saw a couple of other writers do the same so it wasn’t a fluke. You could tell the difference by the felt recoil. You can sight in with a Hybred lite and shoot a 3” Hybrid magnum to the same point of impact at 50 yards. The only difference is the felt recoil. I have done it so I know it can be done and is all the time. The slugs are made of lead and will expand on a deer or other similar animal. In a rifled barrel they are accurate well beyond 150 yards provided the shooter is sufficiently skilled for such shooting. I would use them without hesitation on deer, bear, wild boar and similar game. The 3 ½” version is used in Alaska for Grizzly bears. By the way the 20 gauge slugs will also shoot to the same point of impact. Been there done that!!!!! |

I have done a lot of work with inline muzzle loaders with various types of slugs. Honesty will compel me to admit that most of the bullets tried shot well. However the 300 grain Alpha Gold was a accurate as any and more then most. They took a different approach then most bullet makers. Theirs are pure lead with a boattail and hollow point. That design helps with downrange ballistics and terminal performance on game animals. It is a well known fact that lead bullets are very effective against big game providing they are properly designed. These are! I have driven them at over 1900 FPS and still obtained good accuracy. Like the slugs when I go hunting with an inline the Alpha Gold will go with me.
