E-mail from Allan Ellis

This New Brunswick black bear came to the bait at 20 yards and stood broadside. As I leaned forward on the stand and rested my slug gun on my knee, the stand sounded a metallic 'clink' and the bear walked off.  To my amazement the bear stood up on its hind legs an looked back at me.  One shot, center-mass, from a 2-3/4" Hybred XP at 35 yards was all it took - the bear  only went 15 paces and expired. Even the guide was amazed at the devastaing damage from the slug's impact.

Thanks,
Allan Ellis

My wife Ginny, (whom you met at the AGLOW conference in Gaylord, MI) scored with the Lightfield loads.  She was using all the right products to make her invisible and this guy walked out at six yards.  She actually had to shoot him when he decided he was going to move on.  This was a seven point buck, should have been an eight, but one tine was not developed.  His weight was about 235.  Heavy deer.

Thanks for sending the Lightfield loads and I will be making recommendations in my columns about this outstanding product.

E-mail from Deer Management Systems, Inc. in New Jersey

I'm writing to you to give you an update on this past season's Deer Culling Programs.  I once again participated as a volunteer in the Essex County's South Mountain Reservation 2nd Deer Reduction Program.  The first year some Agents used Lightfield Slugs.  This year, after seeing the success those Agents had and at my insistence, all Agents switched to Lightfields.  The results were overwhelming with a much higher shot to kill ratio than the previous year.  As a result the Managers of Essex County decided to purchase thru the Sheriff's Department a large quantity of Lightfield Slugs and distribute them to all of their Agents.  The Program has been such a success that this year Essex County is expanding the Program to two more Parks within the County and I'm sure they will once again purchase the Lightfields to supply their Agents.  As for my Programs, we are still involved with two Communities.  The programs are such a success that these Communities are constantly offering us new shooting sites every year.  We have shot over a thousand deer in the two Communities but we still have a ways to go.

Regards,
Carl-D.M.S.

Confidence in the reliablity of equipment is a key component for any deer hunter. For the past several years I've come to depend upon Lightfield Commanders for use in my Remington 11-87 for putting venision on the table. The ammunition has never let me down.

The 20ga shotgun is often referred to by some folks as being not enough gun, or at best the bare minimum for deer hunting with slugs. However I've always had good luck with the 20ga on whitetails, and truly prefer its lighter weight and faster handling characteristics when compared to a 12 ga. Last year I had a chance to test the T/C Encore with a fully rifled 20ga barrel. The slug I opted to use was the Lightfield "Hybred" sabot. By sending a 7/8 ounce slug out a 1500 feet per second, it is certainly not a banty-weight in the deer woods and is fully capble of handling tenacious whitetails.

The buck I shot opening morning (in southern
Michigan) dropped in his tracks and never even twitched. Post-mortem examination said it all. The Lightfield slug had entered the left shoulder and made an exit out the right shoulder creating obvious and commendable damage to the lungs and heart along the way. The T/C Encore 20ga and the Lightfield slug are clearly one of those matches made in heaven.

Later I filled out two antlerless tags with two large does, both of which dropped in their tracks as well (one with a neck shot, the other with a completely penetrating slug on a quartering away angle). All total I had bagged 3 deer with 3 20ga Lightfield slugs.

My eldest son Jake also used the same 20ga Lightfield slugs in his scoped H&R slug (the heavy-barreled version) gun to bag two whitetails, one a large bodied doe, and the other a trophy 8-point buck he shot while still-hunting late in the season. He has had his H&R "20" Pro-ported by Mag-Na-Port, and when loaded with the Lightfield Hybred sabot, it is clearly a tack-driver out to 150 yards with hardly any recoil.

The Lightfield Hybred sabot truly turns the more petite 20ga into a big game shotgun. I wouldn't hesitate a second to use it for caribou or black bear hunting as well.
