Any changes you make to your club member account will take effect as of your next login.

A: Once a message or message reply has been posted it is held until it can be reviewed and activated by the Discussion Board Administrator. During the release process your message or message reply is monitored for content, etc. This process normally takes a couple days.

Q9: I shot my deer at very close range so why was there no exit wound?

A:

Lightfield slugs are not designed to pass through an animal. Energy expended by any slug once it has passed through a target is purely wasted energy. Lightfield slugs are the heaviest and largest diameter slugs available on the market today. They are engineered to expand to a maximum diameter and impart their total kinetic energy upon target impact in the form of hydraulic shock. After all, wound channel size and tissue damage is more important to the swift harvest of game than the number of trees killed after the slug exits. Regardless of the slug being shot, it is ultimately the hunter's responsibility to ensure recovery of their game by taking shots only at the animal's vital areas.

Q10: What round would you recommend I shoot through my smooth bore gun equipped with a screw in rifled choke tube?

A: So that smooth bore gun owners may take advantage of the inherent accuracy of the Hybred EXP, Lightfield Ammunition Corp. has a sabot slug (Lightfield Lites) specifically designed for use with screw-in rifled choke tube systems. You will get very good accuracy with the Lites/rifled choke combination --- in fact and as a rule of thumb, the longer the rifled tube the better the accuracy.

Q11: Is Lightfield planning to add a Commander IDS 20 gauge slug to its ammunition product line?

A: Lightfield plans to produce a Commander IDS 3" version of the 20 gauge round that will be available in the Fall of 2010.

Q12: Why is the casing on my Lightfield slug a different length than that of the same length slug from a different manufacturer?

A: The length of all casings should be measured after they are fired. The post-firing casing length is the definitive measurement that determines the proper fit of that casing within your gun's chamber. For example, a 2-3/4" slug designed to be fired in a 2-3/4" chamber has a measured casing length of 2-3/4" only after it has been fired. This allows good transfer of the slug from the end of the hull to the leads of the rifling.

Q13: Can you supply me with a list of dealers that carry Lightfield ammunition?

A:

Please click on our "Store Locator" located on the Navigation Bar.  Lightfield ammunition is typically stocked by Dicks Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain and Cabelas.  If you cannot find what you are looking for you can order all Lightfield ammunition products online by clicking on "Shop Online" on the Navigation Bar..

Q14: Why can't I shoot 2-3/4" slugs through my 3-1/2" chambered slug gun?

A:

Firing a 2-3/4" slug in a 3-1/2" chamber is not recommended because of the length of the jump the slug makes between the end of a 2-3/4" case and the front end of a 3-1/2" chamber. This can cause misalignment of the sabot on the slug, thus causing a serious pressure problem as well as poor accuracy. Slugs are NOT LIKE SHOT SHELLS where a shorter shell can be safely fired in a longer chamber with no ill effects. The bottom line is you should use a shell with a minimum case length of 3" (ideally 3-1/2") in any 3-1/2" chambered rifled barrel for best accuracy. THE CASE LENGTH SHOULD MATCH THE CHAMBER LENGTH WHEN IT COMES TO SLUGS.

Q15: What will happen if I shoot Lightfield Saboted slugs through my smooth bore gun?

A:

The smooth bore gun has been around for several hundred years and if anybody could have gotten them to shoot accurately, they would not have invented rifling. There is no brand or make of saboted round from any manufacturer that truely works better than any other round in a smooth bore barrel. To use a sabot round in a smooth bore barrel is a waste of money unless it can be equipped with an extended rifled style screw in choke tube. So that smooth bore gun owners may take advantage of the inherent accuracy of the Hybred EXP, Lightfield Ammunition Corp. has a sabot slug (Lightfield Lites) specifically designed for use with this type of screw in rifled choke tube system.

Q16:  What to do when you get misfires with your H&R slug gun.

A:
If the firing pin hole gets dirty or sticky on the H&R slug guns, misfires could result.

The hammer does not actually hit the firing pin on the H&R single shots but instead hits a transfer bar which in turn hits the firing pin. This is a safety feature in case the gun is dropped on the hammer so it cannot accidently discharge.

When the hammer hits the transfer bar and then the bar hits a lazy firing pin, just enough energy is taken away from the strike on the primer to cause a misfire. Just a few years of field use can cause this problem, even some of the so called spay on gun cleaners/lubricants can cause the dust/dirt to collect in the firing pin hole and make the firing pin sluggish.

The firing pin hole must be kept clean (lightly oiled) and the firing pin itself must really be free floating in the hole!

Please check this area every year before going afield with your H&R Ultra 20 and 12 gauge Slug guns.
