When using the Encore rifle receiver with a 12 or 20 guage slug barrel, using any brand of slug ammo, you will occasionally see the shotgun primer pierced in the center with a black residue around the hole in the primer.  This is neither dangerous nor will it interfere with acuracy.  It's just an unusal event for those who have never seen it.

Rifle receivers use a smaller diameter firing pin, longer length and have a heavier firing oin spring than any normal slug gun.  They are designed for higher pressure ammunition.  They must set off a smaller diameter primer with a much harder cup because of the rifle pressures involved.
